Social Distance Driveway Mermaid Party

Updated: Sep 28, 2020

My daughter wanted to have a bubble mermaid party, but how do you have a party where you have to social distance and going to play areas or event places are not the best idea. We decided to have a driveway party where kids could come up to the table and grab the items such as the cupcakes, drinks, and bubbles but still keep their distance.

Check out how to make the cupcakes, toppers, and set up of the table in the video below.

A party all starts withe the cake, or in this case the CUPCAKES!! My daughter wanted to make fancy cupcakes with mermaid tails and sea stars on them and cute sprinkles, so the theme all revolved around this idea of bubbles and mermaid tails. First we had to build the stand for the cupcakes, and I had the perfect 3 Tired Dessert stand from Deflecto. I wanted to dress it up a bit so I grabbed some washi tape to match from my Deflecto 3 Drawer Organizer.

I think the colors I picked will be amazing on the 3 Tiered Dessert Stand, they go perfect with the sprinkles my daughter picked out on amazon.

First I applied the washi tape to each tier of the stand. It does not fit all the way up the edge, but it really give a big wow factor because the washi it really holographic!

The it is time to assemble the stand, and all the instructions are in the package. It is super easy! Check out the video at the top to see how to assemble in detail. Now time to make the cupcake toppers! I cut out sea stars and mermaid tails from cardstock (in matching colors to the sprinkles) on my Cricut. Check out the cut files in my store, so easy to cut with an electronic cutter and you get 6 images total!

Now time to make them into toppers, and Xyron is amazing to make paper into a sticker!

The just add the toothpick to make it a sandwich with the two sides of the cut out images, check out the video for full details.

I just love these little toppers, so easy and such a big effect!

Now time to make the cupcakes. My daughter picked out chocolate with chocolate chips, so yummy!! We made a simple buttercream frosting and used food coloring to make 4 different colors that matched the sprinkles. My daughter join in on the fun of decorating the cupcakes, because getting ready for the party is the best part of the fun!

We made 28 cupcakes, and with a little extra stacking we fit them all in the Deflecto 3 Tiered Dessert Stand!

I made the bubble bucket with the printable tags on the bubble wands in a previous post, click HERE to see how to make these fun party favors!!

You can get these files in my store!

I got super lucky and a friend was done with a balloon arch, so she gave it to me for the party, I attached it to the garage door with some string and let it hang. I loved it!! I had ordered the balloons with the mermaid tail from a local artist, so the blend of the two was perfect! Add a few drinks in the color of the party (teal, pink, and white), some Dollar Tree decor, and a bubble machine in the shape of a whale and driveway party here we come!

My daughter had such a blast, and she says it was the best party ever!

There are so many ways to help celebrate a party and keep safe, make a driveway party in your kids favorite theme!
